Dear friends and supporters of Kindle,
The big news this month is God’s grace and protection in a serious vehicle accident! Our driver, Fundani, was returning from a trip in our 3-ton truck. With him was Hamisa, a cousin of the woman who Kindle had just helped to move to her new home. When I heard about the accident, a Chichewa word was used that I didn’t understand, so a translation was provided: “ditch.” The truck went into a ditch. Later I discovered that a better translation of this word would have been “ravine.”
The truck was a complete loss, and has now been sold, but both the driver and the passenger are doing well, with not even any broken bones! Fundani is back to work as our driver, and Hamisa is back in school. We are grateful to God for the way that he protected Fundani and Hamisa. And we are grateful that the accident happened on the return trip, when there were no adults, children, or personal belongings in the back of the truck! Please pray for safe travels at Kindle—road accidents are far too common here!
We also had visitors from WoodsEdge Church this month: Jacob and Miriam Chung, accompanied by Ken Kinard, a mission leader at WoodsEdge. Jacob and Miriam feel that God is calling them to come to Kindle as long-term missionaries later this year, and this was an exploratory trip to see how they might best fit in at Kindle and to visit Rift Valley Academy in Kenya, where they are hoping that their two sons will be able to start school in August. Miriam is a Registered Nurse, and hopes to help at Katawa Clinic, the Nutrition Clinic, and the Short-Term Care Facility. Jacob hopes to work with Abusa Mbereko, encouraging growth and discipleship within churches.
And I suppose that the last big news is that this week our family is moving from Lilongwe to Nanjoka, so Kindle will once again have a resident director. I look forward to having more opportunities to interact with Kindle staff and with people in the community. And I am glad to be rid of my weekly commute!
Thank you for your interest, your prayers, and your partnership!
